I can't sleep because everytime before I go to sleep....?

I remember things I've done in the past that I regret. These being:

-I stupidly allowed my friend to convince me to peirce my nose in a school bathroom, the faculty found out from nosy kids and people talked about it for a long time

-My parents found out that my friend and I said innapropriate things on an online game (we were just being stupid kids, ya know?)

- I had an eating disorder, bulimia, and my friend told the school nurse who called me down and made me talk about it. And stupidly I cried, and people kept asking why and I told some.

** There are a few other minor-ish ones, but these are the top 3 regrets of my lfie.

I remember these things, even though they happened months ago and I kick myself for making these mistakes. I keep thinking about it and it distracts me from my life, and especially getting sleep.

Does anyone else have a similar problem? Finding someone who can relate would be nice. How can I overcome it?

Thank you so much.

**Another thing i recently remembered was how a teacher wrongly accused me of cheating on a test in 8th grade with this geeky guy no one liked.

He called me out in front of everyone and threatened to fail me, and this test counted for a lot. He didnt believe me when I said i didnt cheat and i couldnt help but cry. And EVERYONE saw. I will try to forget these things. It's just when I think of them the embarassment comes back and I wonder if anyone else still thinks about it.

Everybody face these kind of challenges from time to time. No one is free from problems, and it is how well each person has learnt to deal with it.

Since this is haunting you so bad, let me teach you a few strategies to deal with your problems.

1. Accept that you have made a mistake. Denial just makes it worse. That mistake is done, cannot be reversed. Tell youirself you will never in your right mind repeat the mistake again.

2. You are growing up, this is all part and parcel of the learning process. Painful lessons, inevitably. Again, accept.

3. Now forgive yourself.Acceptance and forgiveness will heal your mistakes and your pain.

4. Don't hate yourself, you must love yourself, respect yourself and other people will also love and respect you.

5. At night before you sleep, imagine yourself throwing all the bad events of the day, all the bad stuff into a black bag. Tie up the black bag and take it out into the bin at the front of your house.

6. So all worries and unhappiness thrown out every night, yes? In the morning, wake up and say to yourself, Today I decide to have a really happy and good day. I live in the present. I have forgotten about yesterday, and I will not worry about tomorrow.

That's how I got over my own depression and unhappiness. The most helpful book that got me over my darkest hour was Andrew Matthews Being Happy.
